Year 3

This week has been packed with exciting learning! In Maths, Year 3's practiced adding and subtracting by tens and hundreds learning how to confidently exchange within the place values. Georgraphy lessons took us on a journey looking at various famous rivers like the River Mersey and exploring the source, length and estuaries. As part of Black History Month, we have been finding about African American Arthur Ashe and how he has impacted his sport. They have made some amazing posters with their facts they have found! In RE, we learned about Diwali, the Festival of Lights, and made colourful crafts to celebrate the day. Science was an active lesson where we looked at exploring magnets and testing their strength at different differences to see how they attract paperclips. We wish you all a safe and enjoyable half term!

Year 4

We've had a fantastic half term and are so impressed by the focus and hard work everyone has shown!

This week, we enjoyed a visit from an instrument roadshow, where a cellist, clarinetist, and flutist performed solos and duets to inspire the children to explore these beautiful instruments. The music captivated everyone, and the students seemed excited about the idea of learning to play themselves.

In English, we’ve been crafting letters in the role of the Stone Age Boy, and the results have been an absolute joy to read! The children brought wonderful creativity and empathy to their writing. In Maths, we've been mastering addition and subtraction with exchanging, and everyone’s been making fantastic progress. In Art, the children completed their final paintings, which showcased their incredible creativity and expression. We’re absolutely thrilled with what they’ve achieved!

Have a lovely, restful half-term break, and we’ll see you afterward, ready for more learning and fun!

Year 5

What a brilliant start – an amazingly busy first half term! So much hard work and determination shown by our lovely Year 5s.

This week we have researched information about a scientist famous Stephanie Kwolek – ask your children what they found out about her.

During half term it is the Hindu festival of Light, called Diwali. This week in our RE lessons we found out about the traditions and ways that Diwali is celebrated. We made our own cards in class and hope you enjoyed seeing them at home.

The month of October is Black History Month. We have been finding out about the first African American astronaut called Guion Bulford. We also looked at the life and the work of abolitionist, Fredrick Douglass. We then created display work showing what we had found out about both men.

Year 6 News

What an incredible half term we have had, Year 6! We are so proud of all the hard work you have put in, and it’s been wonderful to see your creativity shine through in everything you do.

This week, we explored the vibrant festival of Diwali, learning about its significance and traditions. To celebrate, each of you crafted beautiful paper lamps that lit up our classroom with color and creativity! Your artistic talents really shone through, and we loved seeing the unique designs that captured the spirit of the festival.

In art, you’ve been hard at work on your final pieces, and they look absolutely amazing! Each project reflects your individual identities and creativity, making our display truly special. We’re excited to showcase your work and celebrate the diverse talents within our class.

Black History Month

We also delved into the inspiring stories of remarkable individuals who have made a difference in history. Learning about Arthur Wharton, the first black footballer, and Paul Stephenson, who led the Bristol bus boycott as the first black civil rights campaigner, was truly enlightening. Additionally, Julius Montgomery’s achievements as the first black American technical professional and politician showed us the importance of perseverance and courage.

As we wrap up this fantastic half term, we’re thrilled with your writing for this unit. You created a setting description for the magical shop, The Nowhere Emporium. Your used your senses to bring it to life!

Thank you for an unforgettable half term filled with learning, creativity, and inspiration. Let’s keep up the great work as we move forward into the next term!
