Weekly News Year 3

This week in Year 3, we have been very busy with lots of exciting activities! In English, we practised using prepositions, the present perfect tense, commas in a list, and conjunctions.

In PE, we continued to focus on building skills for tennis and golf which all children have made great progress in.

In Maths, we focused on perimeter by measuring and adding the sides of shapes together.

On Tuesday, we went on an exciting Roman trip to Wrexham, where we experienced what life was like for a Roman soldier. We wore shields, threw spears, and tried on Roman armour, which was much heavier than it looked!

On Wednesday, we had a fantastic speaker to start our STEM week. We planted sunflowers, and there is a school competition to see who can grow the tallest one!

On Thursday, we explored microbits and designed our own name badges. It has been an incredibly busy and fun week! Have a lovely weekend!

Weekly News - Year 4

We've had another fantastic and busy week in Year 4!

As part of STEM Week, every child across the school has planted a sunflower seed! This exciting hands-on activity is helping the children learn about plant growth, life cycles, and the importance of caring for living things. We can't wait to see how their sunflowers grow over the coming weeks!

In DT, the children baked biscuits, working in teams to produce some excellent results—there were some delicious creations!

In Music, we had the amazing opportunity to attend the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. The children not only enjoyed the experience but also had the chance to sing alongside the orchestra, which was truly beautiful to watch. 🎶

In Maths, we have been learning to convert mixed numbers into improper fractions, building on our understanding of fractions. We have also focused on solidifying our understadning of the bus stop method.

In English, the children have started writing the opening and build-up of their adventure stories, using all the key features they have learned. ✍️

Year 5

What a week! We have been so busy in Year 5 this week. It has been STEM week, meaning our curriculum has been focused on maths, science, DT and computing.

Our week began with a talk from a parent who worked at a local hospital. He was really interesting to listen to and we learnt lots about the job he does. We were able to ask questions and learn about how science is used in the real world. Thank you once again to our guest speaker.

We had an amazing morning planning how to build a small shelter for a wild animal. We designed our shelters in class and then spent some time in the fresh air building our shelters, as a team, out of mostly natural materials. It was great fun and they looked amazing.

We also loved using the laptops and the  microbits that we were programmed with a set of instructions, to make the microbits react and follow the instructions. We were able to make the microbits smile or frown - another fun lesson during our STEM curriculum.

Finally this week we planted our sunflower seeds and learnt about how they would germinate. Once our sunflowers have started to grow they will be transferred to our Community Garden, meaning we can all enjoy watching them grow.
