Year 3 News

What an amazing first week back in Year 3! In Maths, we explored length by comparing millimeters, centimeters, and meters, practicing conversions and understanding when to use each unit. In English, we became newspaper reporters, drafting, editing, and publishing reports about the thrilling dance show in Call Me Lion, focusing on formal language, catchy headlines, and realistic quotes. In RE, we learned about langar in Sikhism and designed our own nutritious and inclusive langar menus. In DT, we kicked off our new topic on wearable technology, exploring its purpose and creating design criteria for our own innovative projects. In Science, we started Animals Including Humans by investigating different food groups and their role in a balanced diet. It has been a fantastic week of creativity, learning, and discovery—well done, Year 3! Have a safe and restful weekend!

Year 4 News

What an amazing start to the new half-term! In Maths, the children have been continuing their work on perimeter and have now begun exploring mixed number fractions, using drawings to support their understanding.

In English, they have been crafting expanded noun phrases to bring their magical objects and mythical characters to life. Their creativity has shone through as they prepare to plan their own mythical narratives next week.

Our Art lessons have been truly inspiring, with children scaling up their favourite Quentin Blake illustrations on cartridge paper. Their attention to detail and commitment to drawing in his style have been incredible to see!

In Music, they have been making fantastic progress on the ukulele, while in Geography, they have been exploring active volcanoes in different parts of the world. Over in Science, the children have been conducting hands-on investigations to understand the relationship between distance and sound.

Excitement is building for our residential trip to Barstondale next week, and the children can’t wait for the adventure ahead!

Well done, Year 4 – an excellent week of learning! If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch.

Year 5 News

Year 5 have had an amazing first week back. We’ve been refreshed by our break and have been super busy again.

We have started our new history unit, learning about the TransAtlantic slave trade. We looked at where the country of Benin is and how people were forced to become slaves and transported to The Americas.

In maths this week we have continued with fractions but we have played games too. Using dice and a partner to make our times tables fun.

We have also started to learn about Jesus’ journey to the cross - looking at how Holy week is full of mixed emotions for Christian followers. We thought about how Jeus, the disciples and followers of Christianity would feel at different important events throughout the week.

We also braved the cold weather to begin our new PE units. We played netball and learnt some tennis skills

Year 6 news

What a fantastic week we’ve had in Year 6! We have kicked off our new history topic on World War II, diving into the events that led to the war and exploring the reasons behind its beginning. The children have shown great curiosity and enthusiasm, asking thoughtful questions and engaging in discussions about this important period in history.

In maths, we have been developing our understanding of reflections in two and four quadrants, as well as exploring parallel and perpendicular lines. The children have worked incredibly hard to apply their knowledge and reasoning skills to these tricky concepts. In Spanish, we have continued studying portraits, identifying key facial features and describing hair and eye colour in our target language—fantástico!

Our art lessons have been particularly exciting this week as we planned our wire sculpture portraits. The children experimented with contour and continuous line drawings, ready to bring their creations to life in wire next week. We can’t wait to see their ideas take shape!

Looking ahead, we are excited to begin our new PE topics with Mr. Moss—get ready for some fun and active sessions! Well done, Year 6, for another brilliant week of learning. Keep up the fantastic work!
