Year 3 News

It’s been a busy and exciting first week back in Year 3! In English, we began our new book The Boy Who Grew Dragons and have really enjoyed stepping into the shoes of the main character, imagining what it would be like to discover a real dragon in your garden! In Maths, we’ve moved on to fractions, where we have been learning how to add and subtract them using visual aids and practical activities to help us understand the concepts clearly. In Science, we continued our topic on light and had great fun creating our own shadow puppets. We explored how the position of the light source affects the size of shadows and made predictions and observations during our experiments. In History, we began our new topic on Ancient Egypt by placing key events on a timeline and having some brilliant discussions about what we already know. We can’t wait to learn more about pharaohs, pyramids and mummies! In Spanish, we’ve been building on our speaking and listening skills by practising how to say our names and where we live, using simple phrases and fun games to boost our confidence. In PE, the children showed fantastic enthusiasm as we kicked off our new sports, cricket and football, and began learning and practising new techniques and teamwork skills. A fantastic start to the term, Year 3!

Year 4 News

Well done to Year 4 on a fantastic first week back! The children have returned with great enthusiasm and focus. In Maths, we’ve been learning all about time—converting minutes into seconds and exploring how days fit into months. In English, the children have begun drafting powerful narratives, each featuring a disabled character who overcomes a challenge to achieve something inspiring. Our Geography lessons have taken us around the world as we explored time zones, including the time differences across Africa. In PE, we’ve kicked off with dodgeball and tennis, focusing on movement, agility and how to swing effectively. In Music, the class has loved learning Roman songs—it’s been a joy to watch them get into character and perform with confidence! In Art, we’ve been inspired by Gayle Gerson’s vibrant collage work and have started creating our own textured masterpieces. A reminder that next week is the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC), so please take time this weekend to support your child in practising their times tables. Keep up the great work, Year 4!

Year 5 News

Wow! What an amazing start to our final term together in Year 5.

As always, we have been extremely busy this week. We have started our new text in English called ‘The Invention of Hugo Cabret’ and we are hooked!

We have continued to learn about geometry in our maths lessons – building on our work on angles, looking at parallel lines and perpendicular lines. Then investigating shapes too.

We have had a great history lesson this week. We have been looking at the Civil Rights movement in America, learning about the people and their stories that led to change. The children have shown a high level of maturity when discussing this topic.

In RE this week we introduced the children to Humanism – a belief system that follows many rules and has morals and ‘doing the right thing’ at its core, but isn’t a religion with a god.

Year 6 News

It’s been a packed and productive week in Year 6! One of the biggest highlights was our DT days, where the children designed and created their own automata toys. Using saws and glue guns safely and confidently, they developed key practical skills alongside thoughtful design work, creating moving toys with a clear purpose. It was fantastic to see the children working collaboratively, problem-solving and supporting each other throughout the process.

In English, we’ve been continuing our work on World War II non-chronological reports. The children are making excellent progress, using a wide range of skills from the Year 6 Interim Teacher Assessment Framework (ITAF). Their writing is detailed, well-organised, and packed with historical knowledge – a great example of how they are rising to the expectations of upper Key Stage 2.

We also took part in a Geography Day this week, where we explored global population and air pollution. The children researched and compared data from China, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom, analysing the causes and effects of air pollution in each country. They asked thoughtful questions and engaged in meaningful discussions about global environmental challenges.

And last but certainly not least, we’ve begun rehearsals for our Year 6 Leavers’ Show – The Greatest Show! There’s a real sense of excitement as we dive into singing, acting and staging. We can’t wait to see the children shine on stage as rehearsals progress!
