Year 3 News

This week in Year 3, we continued to focus on extending our sentences, changing the tone in our writing and using our senses to make our descriptions more interesting as we worked on The Boy Who Grew Dragons. In Science, we completed our final lesson on UV rays in our light topic, and the children created informative posters about why it is important to protect ourselves from UV rays. We also began our new DT topic on pneumatic toys. The children explored different examples of pneumatic toys to spark ideas for designing their own. In Spanish, we learned to recognise and identify different Spanish-speaking countries. In History, we discovered why the River Nile was so important to the Ancient Egyptians. In Maths, we continued working on fractions, tackling reasoning and problem-solving questions to deepen our understanding.

We wish everyone a safe and wonderful weekend!

Year 6 News

This week, Year 6 proudly completed our art unit, which focused on architectural buildings and homes from around the world. We explored the work of our chosen artist, The Shoreditch Sketcher, who is known for his beautiful fine line pen and watercolour illustrations. Inspired by his style, we worked collaboratively in small groups to design and build our own architectural homes using foam board, which we then decorated with ink and paint. The results were fantastic!

In RE, we concluded our unit on Islam and the Natural World, learning how nature plays a significant role in the Islamic faith and the importance of caring for our planet.

Excitingly, we’ve also held auditions for our Year 6 Leavers’ Show. Parts have now been given out, and rehearsals are officially underway! The enthusiasm and effort from everyone has been incredible so far – it’s already shaping up to be The Greatest Show!

Year 5 News

Year 5 have had an incredible week this week.

On Tuesday afternoon we walked to Christ Church for a lovely afternoon completing a bug scavenger hunt, a nature walk, making seed bombs to brighten our gardens and bug hotels for even the littlest creatures to enjoy. It was educational and enjoyable – we were so grateful to the volunteers at the church for giving up their time (and our parent helpers who walked with us too!)

In maths this week we have been learning about and using coordinates. We have translated shapes and used a line of symmetry to plot reflections. We have got so good at plotting coordinates that we could all bury our treasure and still find it!

Some of our children were lucky this week to have some expert netball coaching from one of our Year 5 mums – thank you for giving up your time to support our children. The rest of the year group began some team building activities in preparation for an orienteering lesson.
