Careers Week- Year 5
This year, our Year 5 pupils took part in an exciting and inspiring Careers Week, designed to help them begin thinking about their futures and the wide range of opportunities available to them. Throughout the week, the children had the chance to speak to a variety of professionals from different industries via video calls. These included careers in healthcare, law, engineering, hospitality, the arts, education, and more.
During each session, the children were encouraged to ask questions—and they certainly rose to the challenge! From finding out about the day-to-day responsibilities of each role to exploring what qualifications and personal skills were needed, the children asked thoughtful, mature, and often surprising questions. Many of the visiting professionals commented on how impressed they were with the children’s curiosity, enthusiasm, and respectful manner.
Following on from these sessions, the children took part in a series of workshops using the ‘Positive Footsteps’ programme. These sessions encouraged pupils to reflect on their own qualities, interests, and personal strengths, and to consider how these might be applied in the world of work. From teamwork and creativity to perseverance and communication, children recognised that they already possess many important life skills that will support them in their future careers.
Careers Week not only opened the children’s eyes to the variety of jobs available but also helped to boost their confidence and self-belief as they begin to think about their own aspirations for the future.
