At Brackenwood Junior School, our English curriculum aims to ignite a lifelong passion for reading, writing, and communication in our pupils. We believe that proficiency in English is fundamental to unlocking their full potential, both academically and personally. Our vision is to create a dynamic and inclusive learning environment where every child can develop their language skills, creativity, and confidence.
We are committed to:
Cultivating a Love for Literature We inspire pupils to explore the rich world of literature, from classic tales to contemporary stories, fostering a deep appreciation for the written word. We have ‘Starbooks’ to encourage reading for pleasure in our children across a range of text types. So whether a pupil loves archaic texts, diverse texts, narratively complex texts – our libraries have a full range of books for the children to explore.
Building Strong Communication Skills Our curriculum emphasises clear and effective communication, equipping pupils with the ability to express themselves thoughtfully and confidently in both spoken and written forms.
Encouraging Critical Thinking Through engaging texts and thought-provoking discussions, we develop our pupils' ability to analyse, interpret, and respond to diverse perspectives and ideas.
Supporting Diverse Learners We recognise and celebrate the unique abilities of each child, providing personalised support and inclusive practices to ensure every pupil thrives.
Promoting Creative Expression At Brackenwood Junior school we nurture pupils' creativity through various writing styles and genres, encouraging them to express their ideas and imagination freely demonstrating one of our MAT values 'Expression'.
Integrating Technology We embrace digital tools to enhance learning, ensuring pupil are proficient in modern communication methods and prepared for the future.
Our ultimate goal is to empower our pupils with the language skills and confidence they need to succeed in their academic journeys and beyond, becoming articulate, empathetic, and informed global citizens.
