Year 3 News

This week in Year 3, we’ve been busy learning and exploring across a range of exciting subjects! In Maths, we tackled the 4 and 8 times tables, using them to solve word problems that challenged our reasoning and problem-solving skills. In Writing, we have been working hard to master subordinating conjunctions and fronted adverbials, using them to add depth and detail to our sentences while studying Call Me Lion. Geography has been an adventure as we delved into the fascinating world of deserts, discovering what makes these unique landscapes so special and researching interesting facts to share with the class. In Art, we were inspired by the colourful and imaginative work of Sandra Silberzweig, creating our own stunning artwork by experimenting with colour wheels to find complementary colours. PE brought a sense of calm to the week with a peaceful yoga session, where we practiced different positions to improve our balance, flexibility, and mindfulness. Finally, in Science, we’ve continued to explore plants, focusing on why photosynthesis is essential for their survival and for the planet. It’s been a brilliant week full of creativity, curiosity, and fun—well done, Year 3!

Year 4 News

Hello Year 4 families!

This week has been packed with exciting learning and activities. Here’s what we’ve been up to!

In Maths, the children have been working on multiplying numbers and dividing by 10 and 100, developing their understanding of place value and scaling.

In English, we immersed ourselves in Arthur and the Golden Rope. The children took part in a conscience alley activity where Arthur had to decide, based on persuasive arguments, whether to save his town or stay at home and avoid the adventure.

In Geography, we explored what volcanoes are and researched where they are located around the world. The children enjoyed discovering the “Ring of Fire” and learning how volcanoes shape our planet.

In Music, the children had their first ukulele lesson! They explored the features of the instrument and are looking forward to learning how to play.

In PE, we focused on different types of rolls, including teddy bear, dish, log, pencil, and forward rolls. The children showed great effort in practicing their techniques.

In Science, the children investigated how sound vibrates. They were mesmerized watching sugar grains bounce on clingfilm over a speaker when music was played—it was a fun and eye-opening experiment!

Well done, Year 4, for another fantastic week. Have a wonderful weekend, and we’ll see you on Monday!

Year 5 News

This week has been another busy week and again the Year 5 children have impressed us with their continuing great attitude to school and their work.

We have begun our new science unit on forces by looking at a very famous scientist. The children researched and produced fact sheets about Sir Isaac Newton.

In art we have continued looking at the work of Claude Monet and how he used colour to show time passing throughout the day. We mixed watercolours and made our own colour wheels.

We had a very special visitor this week too, they talked to us about the royal family and we learnt lots of interesting facts. The children’s behaviour was a credit to you and to school.

Year 6 News

Another fantastic week for Year 6! They continue to impress us with their continuous efforts and attitudes towards their learning!

In Geography this week, we revisted previous knowledge from Year 4, looking at the 4 layers of the Earth. We then learnt about different mountain types in the world (Fold, Fault and Dome) and explored how they are formed.

In PE, we continued our topics of WW2 dance and Golf with Mr Moss. The children are loving these new sporting opportuntities.

In writing, Miss McKinney's group have continued planning, drafting, editing and publishing their Non-Chronological report on thier chosen theme park. The children are relaly doing us proud with their writing, included a variety of Year 6 features throughout. Mrs Lee's class are finishing their response to their TripAdvisor review. We have been blown away with their work so far!

On Thursday, we have a lovely visitor into school to teach us about the Royal Family. All of Year 6 were extremely engaged throughout her workshop and were eager to ask questions to find out more or further their understanding.

In PSHE, we looked at online platfroms and how not everything we read online is factual. As a class, we looked at a range of newspaper articles and disucssed whether it was 'fake news' or 'real news'. We also spoke about the importance of having strong passwords as if you don't, people make hack into your account and take personal information.
