Year 3 and 4 News

Year 3 news WC 3.9.24

It has been a wonderful start to the new academic year in Year 3! We have been amazed by how quickly they have settled into life at Brackenwood Junior School. We have seen lovely big smiles each morning and have witnessed the most fantastic manners from all the children!

This week, we have be getting to grips with our new routines around the school, creating beautiful butterflies to show our editing skills, produced interesting and well presented work in English. In addition to this, we have shown an excellent understanding of place value in maths. In music, we have started to learn about ballads, used ipads in quizzes and got messy in art! We can't wait for another exciting week next week!

Year 4 news WC 3.9.24

It has been a great start to the new academic year in Year 4! We have been blown away by how quickly they have settled into the year group. We are very impressed with the politeness and kindness we have seen from the children!

This week, we have been familiarising ourselves with the classroom routines, transitions and behaviour expectations. As children have a Multiplication Times Tables Check we have eagerly got started on learning our times tables using fun, engaging activities. In addition to this, the children have shown a fantastic understanding of place value using 4 digit numbers. In music, we have started to learn about body percussion, and the classes created a song using their own body’s percussion. Keep up the hard work Year 4!

Year 5 and 6 News

Year 5 news

Wow! What an amazing start to Year 5. The children have blown us away with their behaviour, organisational skills and politeness – we couldn’t be more proud and so should you!

It has been a busy start to the year with our first Art lesson on a local artist born in Manchester – ask your children to tell you all about him. We also began our geography lessons looking at the continent of South America.  We used maps to identify the different countries, capitals and the oceans that surround it.

The Year 5 children were also set the challenge ‘how big can you make a piece of paper?’ – they worked together manipulate one piece of A4 paper, some managing to make their paper as long as half the Year 5 corridor – have a go at home, it’s really easy…when you know how!

Year 6 news WC 3.9.24

Wow! What a wonderful start to Year 6 all of the children have had this week. It has been a pleasure teaching them and welcoming them in to their new classes. Around school, they have been fantastic role models to the younger children by consistently using their corridor voices, wonderful walking and doing things first time, every time. We are extremely proud of them for settling into being the oldest children in school so quickly and maturely.

As your children might have mentioned and as discussed on the welcome meetings for parents and carers during the Summer Term, we have been organising all of the children in their groups for Reading, Writing and Maths. They have settled into these groups seamlessly and we are blown away by their excellent attitudes to learning. It is certainly an exciting year ahead!

This week, we have begun our first class story using ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’…we are sure the children will be as hook as we were reading it over the summer break!
