Year 3 News

This week in Year 3, the children have been incredibly busy and have worked so hard! We are incredibly proud of them.

In English, we drafted, edited, and published our diary entries inspired by the book Call Me Lion. The children worked exceptionally hard to make this their best piece of writing yet. In Maths, we focused on mastering our 10 times table and began learning how to multiply a two-digit number by a one-digit number without exchanging. In Geography, the children researched animals of the Atacama Desert and explored how these fascinating creatures have adapted to survive in such extreme conditions. In Music, we continued our exciting topic of singing like Viking warriors, and in Art, we explored analogous colours, blending beautifully with pastel crayons. For PE, our mindfulness yoga practice continued alongside athletics, where the children enjoyed racing over hurdles. Finally, in Spanish, we started learning different colours and practiced pronouncing them correctly. It has been a fantastic week of learning!

Year 4 News

Hello Year 4 families!

We’ve had a busy and exciting week in Year 4, filled with lots of learning and fun. Here’s what we’ve been up to!

In English, the children explored the features of a non-chronological report, ready to start writing their own next week.

In Music, the children learned about the parts of a ukulele and started playing simple tunes. It’s been great to see their enthusiasm!

In Maths, we’ve been working on multiplying three numbers, two-digit numbers by one-digit numbers, and understanding factor pairs.

In Geography, the children learned how volcanoes are formed and the differences between active, dormant, and extinct volcanoes.

In Science, the children investigated which materials absorb sound best by testing bubble wrap, fabric, and sponge in homemade ear defenders.

Well done, Year 4, for your hard work this week! Have a great weekend, and we’ll see you on Monday!

Year 5

It’s been another busy week in Year 5. We had a great start looking at forces in Science. We completed some practical investigations.

In Geography this week we went on a field trip …to the school field! We looked at the type of plants and trees we have growing and how they look at this time of the year. Could we spot any leaves? Berries? We then watched clips about the Amazon Rainforest and made some comparisons to our local environment. It was wet in both places but it’s definitely colder here!

We began our English research for our non-chronological report writing this week too. We watched clips, used IPads to access websites and learnt facts about climate change, the Arctic circle and the impact of climate change on the lives and habitats of polar bears.

Year 6 News

Year 6 have had another great week! They are working so hard in all subjects and we couldn't be mroe prouder of them.

In Maths, Miss McKinney's group have completed an arithmetic test and each child's scores are improving with every test they do. We are also looking at 2D and 3D shapes along with their properties.

Mrs Lee's maths group have been focusing on long divison. The determination and resillience each child is showing is out of this world!

In Geography this week, we are learning about the USA. We are using atlases to identify well- known states, landmarks and human and physical features.

In Science this week, we have explored the different types of arties in our body and their function. The children carried out an experiement which helped us understand the importance of a healthy, balanced diet as if it isnt, your arties can become restricted and stop blood flow.

In Music, we have been studing film music. We looked at graphic scores and matched them to film music.Â
