Community Garden at Brackenwood Junior School

At Brackenwood Junior School, we are proud to have a vibrant and inclusive School Community Garden – a dedicated space where children can grow, create, and connect. Every class visits the garden on a fortnightly basis, taking part in a rich variety of activities designed to support their personal development and help them thrive beyond the classroom.

Through hands-on experiences, pupils develop important life skills while living out our core school values of Collaboration, Inspiration, Expression, and Citizenship. Whether it’s planting flowers, decorating stones, or working together in team-building games, every session offers opportunities to build confidence, creativity, and a sense of community.

Children also learn practical skills such as sewing, tying a tie, and even basic sign language, giving them tools to express themselves and support others. Our Community Garden is more than just a green space—it's a place where children grow not only plants, but also their character, empathy, and friendships.

Each child receives a Community Garden Passport, which they complete throughout the year alongside their classmates. This passport includes a variety of fun, hands-on activities designed to support and strengthen the children’s personal development. From creative tasks to life skills and teamwork challenges, pupils look forward to their fortnightly sessions in the garden with Mrs Jump. To find out more about the exciting activities we take part in, please see our Personal Development Passport.
