Year 3 News

This week in Year 3 has been both festive and full of fantastic learning! The children did an amazing job practicing and performing Christmas carols, spreading joy to parents and the children of Brackenwood Infant School with their beautiful singing. In Maths, they have focused on problem-solving through grouping and sharing, while in PE, they’ve continued to develop their dribbling and shooting skills in basketball. Our budding designers have been hard at work in DT, creating their brilliant castles with incredible attention to detail. Meanwhile, in Science, the children have explored the fascinating process of how fossils are formed, sparking plenty of curiosity and insightful discussions. It’s been a wonderful week, and we’re so proud of everything they’ve achieved!

Year 4 News

The children impressed everyone with their dedication to practicing and performing Christmas carols. Their beautiful singing brought joy to parents and to the children at Brackenwood Infant School, creating a truly special and heartwarming atmosphere.  

In Maths, the focus has been on arithmetic problem-solving, where the children used the bus stop and column methods to tackle challenging questions. It’s been wonderful to see their growing confidence in applying these skills!

In PE, the children continued to refine their dribbling and shooting skills in hockey. It’s been fantastic to watch them work together in teams during friendly matches, displaying great teamwork and sportsmanship. Meanwhile, our budding designers have been hard at work in DT, testing and evaluating their slingshot cars. They’ve also been reflecting on how their designs could be improved—what a great effort from everyone! It’s been a fantastic week, and we’re so proud of everything the children have achieved.

Year 5 News

With our Carol concerts fast approaching, it has been a busy week making the final preparations for our shows. The children have learnt their lines brilliantly, are getting on and off stage at the correct times and our actors, showing the nativity scene, are also doing a great job. 

This week in our DT lessons we completed a blind taste test - we tried two different spaghetti bolognaise sauces. We were a little bit surprised to find that more children preferred the own label brand rather the more expensive jar.
