Year 3 News

This week in Year 3, we started our new Maths unit all about using scales, with a focus on measuring in grams and kilograms. In English, we continued exploring grammar features to help us write our own narratives based on our class book The Wild Robot. We looked closely at expanded noun phrases, prepositions, and how to use descriptive sentences to set the scene. Tuesday was especially exciting as we celebrated Spanish Day! We danced to lively Spanish music, tasted delicious traditional foods, played fun outdoor games in the sunshine, and created brilliant Picasso-inspired artwork. In Art, we explored printing techniques and used a variety of different tools to create prints while focusing on primary and secondary colours. In Science, we began our new topic on light by learning all about different light sources. We also kicked off our new PE units—cricket and athletics! We hope everyone enjoys the bank holiday weekend and we’ll see you back on Tuesday!

Year 4 News

This week in Year 4, we began our new Maths unit on decimals, focusing on using a place value grid to understand tenths and hundredths. In English, we continued writing diary entries in role as either Tranio or Livia during the eruption of Pompeii. We have been working hard to include fronted adverbials, emotive language, accurate punctuation, and vivid description to bring the events of Pompeii to life.

To celebrate Spanish Day, we tasted delicious Spanish foods, explored colours in Spanish through an outdoor scavenger hunt, and created beautiful Spanish-inspired art using watercolours and coloured pens.

In DT, we had fun designing and making our own torches using plastic bottles and electrical circuits.

Have a great Bank Holiday weekend—we’ll see Year 4 back in school on Tuesday!
