Forest School

FOREST SCHOOL VISION/ETHOS

From September 2023, Brackenwood Juniors will operate the Forest Schools Programme for groups of specifically identified pupils. The programme is co-ordinated and run by Mr Johnson from Poulton Lancelyn, who has a Forest School qualification.

Forest school is a way to discover your child’s own self. It opens opportunities to question, discover and explore our incredible world whilst in the outdoor environment. These skills will be transferable in building confident, inquisitive and rounded learners.

WHERE DOES THE IDEA COME FROM?

Forest schools originated in Sweden during the 1950s and was a way of teaching children about the natural world. The idea was adopted by Denmark as an important part of Early Years Provision.  The concept of Forest School was introduced to Britain in 1995 by Bridgewater College and is being developed all over the country.

WHO IS FOREST SCHOOL FOR?

Everyone can benefit from Forest School. Forest School provides a valuable teaching tool for a wide range of curriculum subjects and is an excellent way to support and enrich the National Curriculum. The activities engage children with a variety of needs and learning styles.
